I’ve known about this place since it opened, like it was that cool kid in school I never talked to. I just never managed to fall into trying it—probably because I was too busy making questionable life choices like eating cereal for dinner. But today, destiny (and my stomach) said, “Go forth!” I’m not usually loyal to any one type of food—I play the field—so I asked for a recommendation. The staff said, “Try the Quesabirria taco plate.” Full disclosure: I’m not a taco fan. Tacos and I are usually just polite acquaintances. But these? These tacos were like the Beyoncé of tacos—flawless and demanding your attention. I inhaled them, considered writing them a love letter, and now I’m plotting my inevitable return. If you haven’t been here yet, GET HERE. Your taste buds will thank you, and your diet will just… have to understand.😜
For our first trip to Carmelita’s, we tried the soft tacos, rice and beans and carne asada fries…the tacos came crammed with meat and toppings, the fries were crispy and again crammed with toppings and the rice was fluffy and seasoned great. We will be back to try the tamales and chile rellenos
Went in with my kids. I had tacos de lengua and my son did as well. He was pleasantly surprised when he bit into his tortilla. He was not expecting authentic tortillas since other places do not have these. He is two years old but very vocal about what he doesn't like. He ate his entire taco. These tacos are definitely bigger (about double the size) than the street tacos we usually have so it's no wonder we only got one tortilla per taco. I'm sure I could have asked for extra tortillas for an extra cost but there was no need. There was so much meat on our tacos, I was only able to eat one before I got full. My daughter had an esquite which is the street corn in a cup and she was extremely happy with the taste and portion. My other son had the tostilocos and he definitely enjoyed those. Their portion on these are also larger than most places. I will be visiting again soon.
